University of Connecticut discovered that a genetic defect causes a blue lobster to produce an excessive amount of protein.
[4] The protein, and a red
carotenoid molecule known as
astaxanthin, combine to form a blue complex known as crustacyanin, giving the lobster its blue color.

WOW! I've never seen a blue lobster!
I've never heard of this. Is the taste the same? Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.
How neat Kathleen!
We have a freshwater aquarium in our home office and we bought a tiny Blue lobster for it once. It was only a few inches long and we were told it would not bother other fish. Wrong! It started grabbing them with it's claws and eating away. I was so upset we returned it for a refund.
Happy Blue Monday!

Never seen a blue lobster either. So fascinating.
That is soooo cool! Thank you for sharing the picture and teaching us something new!
Blessings to you from Kansas (where we have no blue lobsters!),
Valerie
